//DECORATOR
{JIM XUE // 关于薛志}
I worked as an engineer in China and I arrived with my family in New Zealand in the late 1995s. One morning at the local library, I was strucked by images published in a magazine of an individual that carved 370 triangles on a goose egg- and that is where my interest germinated.
I fell in love with this hobbie due to the complexity and the idea that each individual egg has their own challenges- namly due to the brittle properties of an egg. For example, a chicken egg has a skin thickness of 0.3mm-0.4mm. Therefore, to carve patterns or holes require a length period of undisrupted attention- and the artwork can easily be destroyed at the last minute. I have carved on a variety of eggs; budgie eggs, quail eggs, chicken eggs, duck eggs, emu eggs and ostrich eggs.
Recently, I retired from my work as an eletronics engineer and decided to further persue in my hobbies-directing my time and energy to this passion, in hopes that one day I will become someone else's inspiration.
